September 5th TIF Update

We express deep concerns with the Alderman’s community engagement on the Pilsen TIF expansion.
In response to community pressure, with over 1,500 letters sent to City officials and ongoing petitions, Alderman Sigcho introduced a voting process through a newsletter stating: “During the week of September 9th, the 25th Ward Office will offer opportunities for residents to vote in person at multiple locations within the ward, with an online form available for those unable to vote in person. Further details will be provided soon.”
Since that August 9th announcement, details on the process have yet to be shared. Our ward lacks a precedent for participatory budgeting voting and community-driven zoning, so this hastily introduced voting process is questionable and concerning. We oppose both the TIF expansion and this last minute voting process.
Alderman Sigcho-López must do the right thing: listen to the letters and petitions demanding he retract his support for the TIF expansion. Our letters continue to send emails to Alderman Sigcho-Lopez, Mayor Johnson, and the co-chairs of the Committee on Finance from people against the TIF expansion. We demand their voices be heard! Our coalition is working tirelessly to ensure our community has a voice, and it would be wrong for the Mayor and Alderman to dismiss them.
Pilsen has spoken before, and we will speak again: NO TIF! NO TIF EXPANSION! Pilsen no se vende, ¡se defiende!

Expresamos nuestra profunda preocupación por el nivel de participación comunitaria del Concejal sobre la expansión del TIF de Pilsen.
En respuesta a la presión del comunidad, con más de 1500 letras enviadas a oficiales del Ciudad y peticiones en curso, Concejal Sigcho introdujo un proceso de votación en un boletín de noticias que dice: “Durante la semana del 9 de Septiembre, la Oficina del Distrito 25 organizará varias oportunidades para que los residentes afectados por la posible expansión emitan sus votos en persona en distintos lugares dentro del barrio. También ofreceremos alternativas de voto para quienes no puedan asistir en persona. Próximamente, compartiremos más detalles sobre este proceso.”
Desde ese anuncio del 9 de Agosto, todavia no sabemos los detalles del proceso. Nuestro distrito no tiene ningun precedente para votación de presupuesto participativo y zonificación manejado por la comunidad, por eso cuestionanmos y nos preocupamos de este proceso introducido apresuradamente. Nos oponemos a la expansión TIF y este proceso de votación de última hora.
Concejal Sigcho-López debe hacer lo correcto: escuchar las cartas y peticiones que exigen que retracte su apoyo a la expansión del TIF. Continuamos a enviar correos electrónicos a Concejal Sigcho-López, Alcalde Johnson, y los co-presidentes del Comité de Finanzas de parte de gente en contra del expansión del TIF.¡Exigimos que sus voces sean escuchadas! Nuestra coalición está trabajando incansablemente para asegurar que nuestra comunidad tiene una voz, y sería un error si el Alcalde y Concejal los ignoran.
Pilsen ya ha hablado antes, y volveremos a hablar: ¡NO AL TIF! ¡NO A LA EXPANSIÓN DEL TIF! ¡Pilsen no se vende, se defiende!
